Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is considering switching from white topping to quick road work, which significantly reduces the time required to lay concrete roads as the City roads are in desperate need of repairs.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath inspected a 500-metre stretch of Old Madras Road on Wednesday from 100 Ft Road Junction and Petrol Junction, where a pilot project using the new method has been implemented. “It takes much less time to lay even if it costs 20 per cent more per kilometre than the traditional manner. It uses a pre-cast method,” he said.

“Transportation of the precast from the plant to the site is the cause of the cost hike. If it succeeds, we can consider applying it to other roads as well,” he added. The work would reduce traffic near NGEF, Baiyyappanahalli, and Indiranagar 100 Feet Road, hence this stretch was chosen for the pilot project.
