Bengaluru: The city police commissioner T Sunil Kumar launched community policing in 108 stations of the city. With this Bengaluru becomes the first city in the entire state to introduce the community policing system at most of its stations.
The community policing system was launched on a pilot basis in 7 stations in the year 2013. After studying the pros and cons of the new system, now it has been extended to 108 stations.
Under the scheme, in every police station, 30 persons will be appointed as ‘police friends’. These ‘police friends’ work closely with the police in taking up awareness drives, sharing details of the crime rates and investigations and other important developments, and reaching out to the general public with police department projects and schemes.
Speaking on the occasion T Sunil Kumar said that in the first phase the system was introduced in 18 stations and now it is being extended to 108 stations.
“Our aim is to reach out to the general public to bring down the crime rate and make society feel more safe and secure,” he said.
