Bengaluru: The Vidhana Soudha will be a public space on Sunday to celebrate Namma Bengaluru Habba.

Arrangements are being made for activities such as yoga, zumba, showcasing traditions of Karnataka, and art and craft workshops. The street will be pedestrian-only zone. “We are opening the government to people by making Vidhana Soudha a public space for a day,” said Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge.

The second edition of the Habba, after the one in Sankey Tank, will turn into a platform to create a unique brand for Bengaluru, to promote tourism. A Brand Bengaluru logo and an app targeted at tourists of the city will be released on Sunday.

All the events organised or sponsored by the Tourism Department, including Kadalekai Parishe, Chitra Santhe, Bengaluru Golf Tournament, and Namma Bengaluru Habba, will be brought under Brand Bengaluru. The department is working with the BBMP, BDA and the hospitality industry to adopt the branding.

“We received over 100 entries and the best one was selected by a committee,” he said.

Explaining the tourism potential of Bengaluru, Kharge said the Kempegowda International Airport was the busiest airport in south India, receiving over 22 million passengers annually, of which the department wants to convert a fraction from transit travellers to tourists. “Even if we get just 10 per cent of these passengers to stop over and spend some time in Bengaluru, it will create huge revenue for the government and the hospitality sector,” he said.
