Bangalore: Two BBMP offices, HO in NR Square and IPP office in Malleswaram, Six months and Twenty rats trapped. Cost? Rs: 2 Lakhs. That’s about Rs 10,000 per rat. This money was paid to three companies chosen through the procurement route in three installments. All this under the Mooshika Nirvahane Plan.
At almost Rs 10,000 per rat, the BBMP has probably paid the steepest price to its ‘Piper’ (companies chosen through e-procurement) to get rid of pesky rodents.
This interesting information came to light through an RTI filed by Yediyur Corporator N R Ramesh Pal ike head office in NR square and IPP building in Malleswaram.
The RTI also revealed that time stated that the BBMP had spent Rs 99,000 to control rodent menace in BBMP head office at NR Circle and at IPP centre at Malleswaram from October 2012 to January 2013. Again, the BBMP had spent Rs 99,000 from August 2013 to October 2013. That is a total of Rs 1.98 lakh to trap rats.
How did this come about? Two years ago, a dead rat was found in a cupboard. It was then that a renovation of the dministration section and office of chief accounts officer was ordered.
The information he received was a revelation and when it was revealed by Ramesh at the council meeting the corportors inuding commissioner M. Lakshimnarayana had a good laugh.
