Bengaluru: The BBMP has now set its eyes on the mobile towers of the city which are not paying any kind of tax to the corporation.
In this regard, the Corporation has decided to write to all the mobile service providers to comply with the tax rules of the corporation in next 15 days else corporation will remove all the towers.
According to MK Gunasekhar, chairman, BBMP standing committee on taxation and finance committee, the BBMP has estimated that around 15,000 mobile towers are functioning in the city and mobile service providers are not paying any kind of tax. “The Committee has decided to write to the service providers and give 15 days time to comply with the tax rules. If they fail to follow our rules we will remove the towers,” he warned.
As per the KMC act, all the service providers must obtain permission after paying stipulated amount to set up their mobile towers. “But none of the companies are following this,” he alleged.
He also informed that all the mobile service providers are directed to use the ducts provided in Tender Sure roads to lay their cables instead of hanging them on trees.
