Bangalore : The contract row of Uma Theatre at Chamrajpete in the capital, which used to screen Dr Rajkumar films, has landed on the streets with the theatre owners and the land lords virtually in a legal tangle.
Though the controversy had been dragged to the court long ago, the lease related issue has further aggravated in the recent times. Latest reports say the theatre was planning to shut down very soon.
The background : If the land lord Udaykumar is arguing that the lease period of the theatre has expired in the year 2008 itself, the theatre owner Chennayya counters the same and states that the lease period is upto 2015. The theatre is located in an area spread over three fourth acre and was leased out in the year 1975. But the exact number of years for which the theatre was leased out is not yet known.
It has also come to light that the theatre which was mandatorily screening Dr Raj films, was facing financial crisis. If latest reports are any indication the theatre will shut down within the next three months and would be razed to the ground to facilitate a mall or a mini multiplex.
In toto, the Uma theatre which was a landmark building in Chamrajapete and used to screen only Kannada films, will soon fade into oblivion.
