Autorickshaw driver nabbed for raping minor

Bengaluru: The Yelahanka police have arrested a 25-year-old autorickshaw driver on Saturday for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

The accused, Girish A., who hails from Andhra Pradesh, is a distant relative of the girl, according to the police.

On September 12, the girl was alone at home as her parents who are construction labourers had gone to work. Girish, who lived nearby, went to the girl’s house and raped her, the police said.

The incident came to light after the girl narrated to her parents what had happened to her. The parents of the victim filed a police complaint. Girish has been booked under various sections of the POCSO Act.

Ransom call

A 50-year-old businessman residing in north Bengaluru has approached the police for help after he reportedly started receiving threatening calls from international telephone numbers, with callers demanding Rs. 2 crore.

The businessman filed a complaint with Sadashivanagar police on Friday. According to the complainant, he got a call around 3.15 p.m. from a number beginning with +44 on September 19, and he did not answer. A few hours later, he received a call from the same number. He told the police that the caller abused him in Hindi, demanded Rs. 2 crore from him, and gave him a day to arrange for the money, failing which they would kill him.
