ATM security guard murder case: Accused Rajendra nabbed

Bengaluru: The accused in the murder of Karnataka Bank ATM security guard Lingappa, Rajendra aka ‘Raja’ aka ‘Psycho Raja’, was arrested here on Saturday, March 30.

The Kumaraswamy Layout police who were on a hunt for Rajendra, spotted him on Double Road in Konanakunte police station limits in the wee hours of Saturday.

As Rajendra began pelting stones at the police, Inspector Hazarish Killadar fired three rounds in self-defence in which one was shot in the air and two on Rajendra’s legs.

Later, he was admitted to Sairam Hospital.

The police confirmed that none of the police was injured in the nabbing operation.

Rajendra, a 28-year-old and resident of C K Palya, had murdered a Karnataka Bank ATM security guard Lingappa (65) on Saturday, March 23 midnight.

The incident was captured on CCTV camera of the ATM.

According to Kumaraswamy Layout police, Rajendra had arrived near the ATM along in a gang and murdered Lingappa with a boulder, after a heated argument between the two. Later, he had taken the wallet out of Lingappa’s pocket and stolen all the money that he had.

The police have confirmed that Rajendra was heavily addicted to Ganja and had taken the money to buy stash.

 “He had attempted a similar crime in J P Nagar, just four days ago”, said police sources.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Division, Annamalai visited the spot and lauded the efforts of the team in nabbing the accused within a short period of time.

In the operation, Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station Inspector Hazarish Killadar, PSI of Thalaghattapura Police Station Shivkumar, PSI Srinivas Prasad of Konanakunte Police Station were involved.

The team was headed by ACP Mahadeva of Subramanyapura Sub Division.
