Bangalore: Despite being attacked with pepper spray from a habitual offender, a brave homemaker caught him and raised an alarm. The victim, identified as Shobha, a 29-year-old home maker from Manjunath Nagar was attacked in a bid to rob her near KEB wedding hall in Rajajinagar in broad daylight on Saturday.

Shobha was returning home from a near-by shop when the accused Vinay, (24), a habitual offender along with his associate used pepper spray on Shobha in a bid to rob her of her jewels. Shobha not only raised alarm but also managed to catch Vinay by his collar. Vinay’s associates sensing danger fled the scene while few passers-by rushed to her help.

Meanwhile a few policemen who were passing by rushed to the spot and detained Vinay before he was brought to Rajajinagar police station for questioning.

Vinay tried to defend his act stating that he was trying to spray it in the air but it hit the woman on her face. However Shobha in her complaint told the police that she was attacked with pepper spray in a bid to snatch her gold chain.

Although Vinay told policemen that he had the pepper spray in his possession to protect himself from his rivals, the police clarified that Vinay was a habitual offender and have several cases against him. “He is an unemployed youth and a drug addict,” the police said. “Using the spray on human beings is highly dangerous as it would lead to loss of eyesight. The victim is currently being treated in a private hospital,” said a senior police officer.

A case has been registered and investigation is being carried, added the police.
