Bangalore: An assistant sub-inspector and a constable attached to Nandini Layout police station were caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 200 from a resident on Thursday. The duo was arrested after the resident lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police.
The complainant, Ramachandra, was riding back home on Tuesday night when his two-wheeler was stopped by ASI G Gangarajaiah and constable Ravi, who were on night patrol. The cops asked Ramachandra for the vehicle’s documents but he failed to produce them. The police personnel then checked his pockets for money, the complaint alleged. Since Ramachandra didn’t have the documents, the cops snatched his cellphone and asked him to come to the police station with a fine of Rs 500 if he wanted to retrieve the mobile.
Ramachandra approached Lokayukta police, who registered a case. A trap was laid at the police station and the ASI and constable were caught accepting Rs 200 from Ramachandra.
