Bengaluru: The prevailing COVID 19 crisis has come as a golden opportunity for all those who are serving in the health sector to adopt pressure tactics to fulfill their demands.

After the MBBS, Medicine PG students, Ayurveda doctors, now it the ASHA workers to demand a raise in salary. One can’t really blame them as the role is both hazardous and they have to work long hours with no respite.

The ASHA workers, who are considered as first-line COVID 19 warriors have decided to hold a protest on Tuesday demanding better salary, working conditions, and other perks.

K Somashekar Yadagiri, president, ASHA workers union affiliated to the AIUTUC informed that a protest will be organized across the state.

“Our demand is minimum Rs.12,000 salary, one-time payment of all the honorarium, etc,” he said.

“We have submitted a memorandum to the state health department in this regard. If the state government does not consider our demands, we will take a harder decision,” he warned.
