Bengaluru: An Angolan woman, a post-graduate student in a reputed college in Bengaluru, had a harrowing time on Wednesday evening when a stalker confronted her in Sanjaynagar before allegedly molesting her and then, shockingly, demanding that she spend the night with him. He is alleged to have expressed his willingness to “pay whatever price for it, even in dollars”.

Mohammed Umar Bhat (25) from Jammu & Kashmir,  a graduate of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) who had come to Bengaluru, to pursue a doctorate as well as get into the professional cricket circuit was arrested and booked under IPC section 354 after an Angolan woman complained that he had molested her at Sanjaynagar at around 6 PM. Police however suspect that the youth is suffering a mental illness after speaking to his parents.

The victim, when accosted by Bhat screamed and her screams attracted the attention of passersby who rushed to her help. They overpowered Bhat, called the Sanjaynagar police and handed him over to them.  The police booked him  and then informed his parents.

Bhat has been sent to National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) for a check-up to ascertain whether he is indeed suffering from any depression, and the nature of his mental illness.

According to the complaint filed with Sanjay Nagar police, the victim and her friends were walking on Sanjaynagar main road when they realised they were being followed by a stranger. Bhat rushed to the victim’s side and grabbed her hand before trying to pull her away from her equally frightened friends.  As he did so, he allegedly told her that he was willing to pay whatever amount she demanded in exchange for spending a night with him!
