Bengaluru: The state government is mulling over the idea of replicating the on going demolition drive in Bengaluru in other cities too.

Demolition drive by owners to evade BBMP bulldozersThe authorities concerned have been asked to submit report on encroachment of government lands in cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi – Dharwad and other cities. The DCs and other officers of respective cities have been asked to submit report on the same.

All cities which fall under corporation administration are likely to go on way of Bangalore’s demolition drive of illegal structures soon.

The cities especially Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Ballari have large number of encroachment cases, sources said adding that an official announcement is likely to come out soon as most of the documents are ready to get going with the big plan.

Vijayashree Pura in Mysuru is said to be the first layout to come under hammer. The residents of the said layout are fighting against such drive as even Supreme Court denied its legality and ordered to raze down the illegal structures their long back.

Earlier, SC refused to consider residents’ plea to overrule its order of demolition on humanitarian grounds. The state government’s order will be the last nail and will crush the hope as it was protected by local politicians.

However, many say that with the Dasara celebrations around, the drive may be a little delayed in Royal City of Mysuru. But, political pundits say that the CM’s image in his home turf will take a beating if he goes on with the drive as aggressively as he did in Bengaluru.
