Bengaluru: The advocates on Thursday, February 8, temporarily called off their relay hunger strike, which began on Monday, after receiving “credible information” that the process of appointing five judges to the Karnataka High Court was at the final stage and that the Union government has already forwarded the names, recommended by the Supreme Court’s collegium, to the President for issuing appointment orders.

In a press release, the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru (AAB), also said a resolution was passed at their meeting demanding both the Supreme Court and the Union government to complete the process of appointing remaining recommendations made by the High Court’s collegium for the posts of judges within a week.

It has also decided to constitute a committee, headed by former Advocate-General B.V. Acharya, to meet the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court to request him to recommend at least 20 persons for the post of judges as at present 38 of the total 62 sanctioned posts are vacant.
