Bengaluru: In a remarkable achievement, 6-year-old Om Swaroop Gowda from Karnataka made the State and the country proud by entering the Guinness Book of World Records for covering the farthest distance in Limbo Skating under car on Sunday, July 17.

In an event held at the basement in Orion Mall, Swaroop, a student of Brigade School, Malleswaram, skated for 65 metres below 36 cars parked in order, amid loud cheers.

After an unsuccessful first attempt in which he had halted 10 cars away from a record, Swaroop took counselling from his coach and reassurances from his family to achieve the feat in his second attempt.

Rishi Nath Nath from Guinness World Records spoke about the guidelines that had to be followed to create a new record. “The minimum distance between the cars cannot be less than 20 cm, the ground clearance cannot exceed 35 cm and no part of the body of the participant below the elbow should touch the ground and the ground should be level with no slopes,” he said.

Swaroop’s coach, Raghavendra K from RV Skating and Sports Club said that Swaroop was practicing at the club from the past two and a half years. He also informed that the new record holder would practice for at least an hour every day and had increased his practice in the last two months.

Swaroop who started practicing at the age of four and half years, is a state champion at the Ballari Open Championship for Limbo Skating and also an open district champion, Bengaluru. His mother Sunitha said that her son was inspired by seniors in his club to attempt the record. She also informed that Swaroop would practice hard in the basement of Orion Mall.
