Mangalore : The state government has issued an order banning fishing during monsoon in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The 57 day ban will be in force from June 15 to August 10.

The government orders states that fishing in mechanized boats using nets is banned during the period.

The  adverse weather conditions during monsoons which turns the sea rough is the main reason for enforcing fishing ban in coastal districts during the period. But, deep-sea trawlers can venture into fishing  from August 3, subject to the condition that they should return only  after the ban  ends on August 10.
