Bengaluru: Phishing is one of the common threats faced by bank customers who have net banking and card payment facilities. Believe it or not…in the last three days city cyber crime branch registered as many as 27 phishing cases. In most of the cases, people lost money while attempting to secure good jobs.
According to the cyber crime police, between October 24 and 26, a total of 27 complaints of phishing were reported in the city. “These are the number of complaints registered. There may be more complaints which are yet to be lodged,” said police sources.
Bottom phishing racket: According to the authorities, this racket is bottom phishing racket which doesn’t withdraw or collect more money. They cheat people for amounts between Rs. 1,000 and Rs.50,000. The idea behind cheating people with a small amount is to prevent them from going to the police.
“We have collected the mobile call details and bank account details of all the accused. But it is difficult to trace them,” said an officer.
“One gang is behind this racket. We are monitoring it. The persons who are calling the people using the name Vignesh Bhattacharya. They are posing as the head of various job portals,” added police.
