14 including Cong leader booked for misusing app

Bengaluru: The Upparpet police of the city registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 14 persons including a Congress leader for using an app to collect the voters’ information. All the 14 are released under the station bail.

According to the Upparpet police, the arrested were using an app (name withheld due to the security concerns) to collect the address and the Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC) details of the voters. This collected data was used to approach the voters. As this App is not permitted, based on the directions of the election commission, the police registered a case under the various sections of the People’s Representative act.

270 equipment seized: Interestingly, police seized 270 equipment used by these 14 people to collect the data. Police are investigating why this equipment was used.
