Bangalore :The 13-year-old domestic help, who was grievously injured after a techie couple attacked her on Thursday, regained consciousness on Sunday evening and is said to be out of danger.

“The girl is stable and showing drastic improvement. Her vital parameters are normal and she is now being fed solid food. The girl is talking and her physical pain has also subsided considerably. However, the girl will be in pediatric ICU till she recuperates fully,” said the doctors at Vani Vilas.

After regaining consciousness, the victim gave her statement in the presence of senior police officers and member from Child Welfare Committee. She stated that “she was brought to the city by Nafisa to look after her sister’s new born child. The couple used to physically assault her, beat her and even subject her to harsh treatment. Many a time, the child was made to starve for days,” said DCP South-East Rohini Sepat.

She further said that the girl, whose body bore several old and fresh injury marks, was allegedly beaten frequently over petty issues. The girl was not questioned much today as she had regained her consciousness only in the evening and needed rest. She is still in a state of trauma. The doctors also said the girl had seizures and is epileptic.

On Monday, the police will again take statement of the domestic help as her condition is expected to improve and the members of Child Welfare Committee will also be present. “The members of CWC will also counsel the child on Monday to find out if she was made to undergo any other harassment, after she came to the couple’s house,” said a police officer.

Meanwhile, a special team of police will be leaving for Darjeeling on Monday to get more information about the girl’s background as she is an orphan and was looked after by her grandmother. The police is also verifying about the wages she got and on what conditions she was allowed to come with the couple.

The couple, Neekunj Todi and his wife Nafiza Usmani, was arrested by the Madiwala police on Saturday.
