Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the officials who filed a false case against Facebook page “Troll Maga” admin Jaikanth.

It can be recalled that Jaikanth was arrested for speaking ill against former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda and family.

Further, the court has ordered the state Deputy General of Police to investigate the police officials who filed the case apart from deducting the fine amount from their salary.

The fine amount has to be paid within a month’s time, as per the directions of the court.

Upon accepting Jaikanth’s petition, the court found that his arrest was ‘unlawful’ and that his bail plea with records, that was filed in Srirampura Police Station was quashed and a fresh case was filed to arrest him.

Based on this discovery, the court directed the Registrar General to launch an enquiry on the magistrate of the sessions court for handing over Jaikanth for judicial custody without abiding law.

It can be recalled that, after Jaikanth came out on bail on June 17, he was once again arrested on June 23, after the JD(S) IT cell filed another case against him. He was later released on the High Court’s directions.

Jaikanth has been accused of trolling former CM H D Kumaraswamy’s son, Nikhil Kumar, with the phrase “Nikhil Yellidiyappa?”
