‘Katthale Bhagya’ in Bengaluru soon?

Bengaluru: Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) officials have asked people to save power as there could be more power cuts in coming days.

Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Managing Director, Bescom, has stressed on judicious use of electricity. He said that the consumption has increased from 3,900 MW to 4,700 MW during the peak hours.

“The demand for power is high and we are trying to meet the demand. We are also purchasing 300 MW power every day at a cost of around Rs 4.50 per unit,” he said.

Temperatures in the city have lead to more use of fans, air coolers and air conditioners, more use of TV since the T20 World Cup is on and people relying on UPS and generators to use electronic equipments is increasing power consumption.

“There is no load shedding, but power cuts might be there due to technical reasons,” explained Pandey.

Hydel energy is used more in the state. At present, water stored in reservoirs is helping the cause. This may not last long because of the summer heat increasing.

Officials at Bescom said that there is a significant dip in power generation at the plants in the state.

Minister D?K?Shivakumar has said that the there are plans to solve the power woes of the state and the government would announce them soon.
