
Vijayapura: Ravigouda Patil Dhulked, the former District Congress Committee (DCC) president became the first victim of the COVID -19 virus of the district.
The 60-year-old leader of the Congress tested positive about a week ago, after which he was admitted to a private hospital here. When his condition did not improve, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Solapur, and later to Pune when the situation worsened.
With no sign of improvement, he died on Sunday due to Covid-19 infection. According to sources, he had several comorbidities which became the primary reason for is his death due to the infection.
Just about a fortnight ago, Ravigouda had lost his ailing father.
Hailed from Duhlkhed village, he served as DCC president for two terms before leaving the post to Former MLA, Raju Algur who is the present DCC present.
After the defeat of the Congress in the last Lok Sabha polls, Ravigouda owned moral responsibility and tendered his resignation. However, he was active in politics.
Several leaders of the Congress party have condoled the death of Ravigouda. In his statement, Former Minister and MLA, M. B.Patil said that having started his political career at a young age, Ravigouda served for Congress for years.
He said that the death of Ravigouda has deeply saddened him and said that the party has lost a dedicated worker.
