Belagavi: The lawyers of the District Bar Association, on Thursday, April 12, staged a stir by blocking the court road decrying the Deputy Commissioner of Police for serving a notice to senior advocate M B Jiralin. They also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Karnataka on this account.
Senior advocate M B Jiralin, who is the advocate for the border dispute case and Mahadayi issue in the Supreme Court, was served a legal notice by the police department expressing doubts that he might be involved in organised crime in a bid to disturb the peace during the upcoming assembly elections.
The group of advocates, who wanted to submit a memorandum on the issue to the Governor through the district authority, was denied entry into the DC’s compound by the police. Irked by this, they blocked the court road condemning the blockade. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Budeppa received the memorandum and pacified the protesters.
In their memorandum, the advocates alleged that the police were planning to include advocate Jiralin in the rowdy sheeter list and demanded to know the basis on which the notice was served. Accusing the police of defaming a law abiding person, they demanded that strict action be taken against the erring police officer.
