Haveri : In a major bus tragedy seven passengers were charred to death and over 40 sustained grievous bus injuries when a private bus on way to Mumbai from Bangalore caught fire at Haveri on November 13, Wednesday night.
It is learnt, the National Travels Volvo Bus hit the road divider near Kunimallalli and then went up in flames. There were around 52 passengers in the bus and 41 of them were successful in escaping by breaking the window panes. However, seven met a tragic end. The two drivers in the bus who sustained minor injuries have fled the scene of the accident , informed SP Shashikumar.
Some of the injured are being treated at the Haveri District Hospital while a few others are admitted to the Karnataka Medical Science College.The bodies of the deceased are yet to be identified, the SP said and expressed fears that the death toll may rise.
This incident has taken place just two weeks after a major bus tragedy wherein a Bangalore-Hyderabad private bus had caught fire killing several passengers on board.
