Dharwad: Raitha Sena Karnataka, the farmers’organization which has been spearheading the protest for safeguarding farmers’ interests while demanding for an early implementation of Mahadayi Water project, since a year, is again in news, this time for a different reason.

Raitha Sena Karnataka chief Veeresh Sobaradmath who led the farmers’ agitation along with Raitha Sena Secretary Shankrappa Ambali among other leaders, was part of govenrment’s delegation which met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

Sobaradmath faced difficulties posed by some political goons for spearheading the agitation. He has now resolved to dedicate rest of his life in the service of the farming community. He would take ‘Sanyas’ from his homely life, in presence of his parents and swamijis who supported his struggle for Mahadayi water project. A mega farmers’ convention will be organized at Naragund wherein the farmers’ agitation seeking for the water project has been going on since 435 days.

Sobaradmath is set to take Sanyas on October 17 at the farmers’ convention. His parents would perform some rituals to dedicate their son forever for the service of farmers on the occasion.

Around 10,000 farmers from four districts are expected to take part in the convention along with intellectuals, farmers, leaders and public organisations.

Raitha Sena Karnataka organizes awareness programmes concerning problems faced by farmers in rural areas.

Raitha Sena Karnataka secretary Shankrappa Ambali said Sobaradmath’s decision to dedicate rest of his life in service of farmers comes at a time, when farmers are bearing so many problems including scarcity of water for agriculture and to lead a normal life.

Chief Veeresh Sobaradmath speaking to NewsKarnataka said, “We have leaders and organizations for every caste and religion. There was none to hear grievances of farmers who are very much in need of a helping hand. Hence, I decided to serve them leaving behind my family”.

Veeresh, an unmarried farmer with a small land holding of two acres has two brothers and a sister who are married. He stresses for a coordinated effort by all organizations for the development of north Karnataka region.
