Late poet Bendre expanded poetic tradition: Noted Critic Giraddi

Dharwad: Gyanpeeth winner, late poet Dr. D.R. Bendre has penned vast literature. New meaning basis of his poetry works are being unearthed with more number of people of different professions showing interest in his poetry, One need to have vast knowledge of all disciplines to understand and analyse the poetry of Bendre, said noted Critic Dr. Giraddi Govindraj.

Speaking after inaugurating a three day workshop on ‘Bendre Kavya Kammata’ organized under the auspices of Dr. D.R. Bendre National Memorial Trust, Dr. R.C. Hiremath Kannada Adhyan Peetha here on Saturday evening, Giraddi said the study of Bendre’s literature is a continuous process, speciality of Bendre’s poetry is inclusive of different subjects, usage of both common as well as rural language. Some of his poems are mixture of both kind of languages, he said.

Bendre was inspired by Kannada, Sanskrit and English poetic tradition (kavya parampare) and Arabindo’s thoughts, which could be seen in his composition work ‘Gari’, Giraddi said.

Trade Union leader, writer Dr. K.S. Sharma said Bendre penned his first poem ‘Tutturi’ which was published in 1918.

Workshop director Dr. K.R. Durgadas also addressed the gathering. Dr. Dhanavant Hajavgol presided over.
