Kolikere to be developed as ‘Mini Brindavan’: Minister Kulkarni

Dharwad: After many pleas by the people and residents of the area surrounding Kolikere, finally the district administration has woken up to develop the grand old tank in Dharwad City, which was lying neglected or many years.

District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni along with DC Dr. S B Bommanahalli, HDMC Commissioner Major (Rtd) Siddalingiah and other officials visited the tank area on Monday morning and took stock of the prevailing situation there.

The residents of nearby Hosayallapur area voiced their concern over foul smell emanating from the tank area which is filled with drainage water.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Kulkarni said the tank’s area would be developed as “Mini Brindavan” at an expenditure of Rs. 15 Crores. The resurvey of tank’s area would be undertaken to identify the borders, besides desilting the tank.

The Nature First organisation has come out with a blue print for the development of tank which is spread over 43 acres of land. A new park would be developed in the area involving walking track and other amenities for people making it a tourist spot, he said.
