Dharwad set to host State level Olympics meet from Feb 3 to 10

Dharwad: Preparations are in final stage for holding the State-level Olympics meet in Hubballi- Dharwad from February 3 to 10.

Speaking to media, Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli said a total of 3,980 sportspersons including 2279 male and 1701 female athletes would participate in 26 events, organised in twin cities.

The district administration in association with all departments, sports and social organisations, is hosting around 6,000 persons including sportspersons, officials and technical persons.

Government hostels, private hotels and lodges are being used for their stay; around 100 vehicles including 60 big buses would be hired to transport the sportspersons from hostel to the ground and vice versa. All prominent grounds are being decked up in twin cities for the smooth conduct of competitions and 22 Ambulances service will be made available round the clock for sportspersons, he said.

While 22 events will be held in Dharwad, 4 will be conducted in Hubballi. Members of NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides will work as volunteers. Eight hydrogen balloons would be released prior to the event for publicity of the event, DC said. Soon a special App and Website regarding the state level Olympic event would be released, he said.

For the first time the sportspersons and the spectators will be covered under insurance during the meet, he said.

Inauguration

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event on February 3 at 4 pm in the district stadium. A folk arts troupe of 500 people would put up performances on the occasion.
