Dharwad: Members of Basava Dala and Channabasavananda Swamiji of Channabasaveshwara Gyanapeetha have opposed the release of “Allama”’ film directed by T S Nagabharana.
The members who held protest infront of the DC office here on Wednesday alleged the film had portrayed the characters of Allama Prabhudeva and other Sharanas in the film in bad taste.

The government must stop its release with objectionable scenes, which has been slated for January 26 or else protests will be held across the state against the film, they said.

In a memorandum submitted to the government, the members alleged that in a scene depicting the beating of Allama with a whip, the person assaulting was shown wearing “Ishtalinga” which was against the history because though Allama Prabhu was senior to Basavanna, it was Basavanna who invented the “Ishtalinga.” Thus showing its existence in a much earlier period is an injustice, they contended.

The matter of wedding between two persons of different castes was one of the main reasons that led to 12th century revolution called “Kalyana Kranti” which was mainly opposed by the priestly oligarchy in those days but according to the film it has been picturised as if the “Sharanas” opposed it, which was wrong, they said.

The intimate scenes between Mayadevi and Allama have added woes to the followers of Sharana Sanskriti which was uncalled for they said while urging the government to stop release of film, till such objectionable scenes were edited.
