Dharwad: Collective struggle is the only way for ASHA workers to get their demands fulfilled, said D Nagalakshmi, State Secretary of Karnataka State United Asha Workers Association.
Speaking at ASHA workers’ district convention organised under the aegis of All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) in Dharwad on May 13, Nagalakshmi said ASHA workers play a pivotal role in healthcare of pregnant women and children but they are paid very less and are unable to lead their life.
“ASHA workers have been successful in realising their demands through judicious struggles in the past 7-8 years. The announcement of ‘matching grants’, honorarium of Rs 1000 announced by the state government were a result of their collective struggle. Our demands of minimum wage, social security among others too could be realised through such struggles”, she added.
District President of the Sangha Gangadhar Badiger mooted a strong struggle based on social justice to get their demands fulfilled.
All India Mahila Sanskritika Sanghatane District President Bhuvana also spoke.
