Belgaum : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned of stern action against owners of sugar factories who fail to adhere to the government orders.
When scribes drew his attention towards the statement of former minister Umesh Katti that it was impossible to adhere to the dictats of the government, the Chief Minister said everyone is equal in the eyes of the government and the law of the land. Fifty three out of the 57 sugar factories including that of Umesh Katti have started operations. All problems will soon be solved, he said.
The sugar factory owners must support the sugarcane growers, he said adding the government is already offering a support price of Rs 250 per every tonne. No previous government has offered support price to sugarcane growers, the CM said adding if the government was offering Rs 250, the sugar factories were giving Rs 2400 taking the total price of a tonne of sugarcane to Rs 2650.
The state government was offering all possible assistance and support to the sugarcane growers, he said adding the government was also offering nearly Rs 300 crore tax concession to the sugar factory owners.
