Bengaluru: Three major political parties – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) failed to emerge as the dominant winner in the first phase of Agricultural Marketing Produce Committees (APMC) elections. The results which were announced on Saturday showed that neither of the three parties had a dominant stand.

JD(S)-supported candidates won 37 of 92 constituencies while Congress came a close-second with 34 candidates backed by the party winning the directors’ posts in Tumakuru district. BJP-supported candidates have won in 14 constituencies, while seven independents have emerged victorious in the elections. In Chikkamagaluru taluk, BJP-supported candidates have won nine posts of the total 13 in the elections to the posts of directors of the APMC. Congress-supported nominees won four posts.
JD(S)-supported candidates won nine out of the total 14 posts in the elections held to the posts of APMC directors in Kolar district. In Chikkaballapur district, all the 12 posts of APMC directors were bagged by Congress-supported nominees. In Kodagu, the elections were held for the posts of 37 directors, of which 30 posts were won by the BJP-supported candidates, five by JD(S)-backed candidates and two by Congress-supported nominees.
