Mumbai: The VP Road police arrested four persons on Monday November 25, for allegedly breaking into a jewellery shop outside Charni Road station and fled away with a safe containing 32 kg of silver jewellery.

The accused have been identified as Ravi Udani (26) a tempo driver, Murugan Shettiar a hawker, and Shantilal Doshi a jeweler and Veer the key accused who has more than 40 robbery cases against him.

The loot is estimated to be of worth Rs 40.26 lakh. The robbery happened on November 11. CCTV footage showed two people getting off a tempo with their faces covered, breaking into the shop and fleeing with the booty.

Investigating Officer, Raju Surve said the culprits cut open the safe in Wadi Bunder. They took the booty and threw the safe in the Dharavi creek. A drug addict, who saw this, recovered the safe and sold it to a scrap dealer. He then sold it to another dealer in Vapi. This dealer was about to send the safe for recycling when cops seized it.
