Ghaziabad: Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, who have been convicted guilty of killing their only daughter Aarushi and domestic help
Hemraj, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court on Tuesday November 26.

Special CBI Judge Shyam Lal awards life imprisonment to the Talwar couple for murdering their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. The duo have been awarded life imprisonment under Section 302, five-year term under Section 201; Rajesh Talwar got one-year jail under Section 203. According to the CBI Counsel, the court has also awarded the Talwars fine of Rs 17,000.
Judge Shyam Lal in his written order compared them to “freaks in the history of mankind where the father and mother became the killer of their own progeny.”
Though the CBI seeked for a death penalty for Talwar couple, but the public prosecutor RK Saini said the case comes under the “rarest of rare” category.
Earlier when the court passed its jugdemet stating, the dentists couple to be guilty and convicted of murdering their only child, 13-year-old Aarushi, and their domestic help, Hemraj it is known that Talwars broke down in court and released a statement which spoke of their anguish but vowed they would “not be defeated”, certainly life imprisonment would have also come hard on the couple.
Aarushi and Hemraj were found dead within hours of each other at the Talwar home in 2008. As learnt including the victims, the Talwar couple were the only four people in the house on the night of May 15, 2008. The next day, two were found dead, and there was no sign of a break-in, signalling that the killers were inside the apartment.
The court accepted circumstantial evidence against them. There was no forensic or material proof to link them to the murders.
The CBI professed the “last-seen theory” – which holds that the victims were last seen with the Talwars.
