Lucknow: An employee of the Indian Embassy in Moscow has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on suspicion of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. The individual, identified as Satendra Siwal and employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Ministry of External Affairs, was apprehended in Meerut.
The ATS initiated the operation based on intelligence received from undisclosed sources indicating attempts by ISI handlers to entice employees of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs with financial incentives in exchange for sensitive information regarding the Indian Army. This exchange of information was deemed a significant threat to India’s internal and external security.
Satendra Siwal, hailing from Shahmahiuddinpur village in Hapur, was singled out as a central figure in the alleged espionage network. It is claimed that he exploited his position within the Indian Embassy in Moscow to obtain confidential documents. Motivated by financial gain, he purportedly divulged critical information regarding the strategic activities of the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, and Indian military establishments to ISI operatives.
In a statement, the agency revealed, “The ATS was receiving intelligence from various confidential sources that the handlers of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, through some persons, were luring the employees of the Ministry of External Affairs with money to obtain strategically and strategically important information related to the Indian Army that is likely to pose a huge threat to the internal and external security of India.”
After conducting extensive intelligence gathering and surveillance, Satendra Siwal was summoned for interrogation at the ATS Field Unit in Meerut. Upon questioning, he reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations, ultimately admitting to his involvement in espionage activities. Siwal had been employed as an India Based Security Assistant (IBSA) at the Indian Embassy in Moscow since 2021.
