The brawl unfolded during a review meeting to discuss development projects worth ₹4 crore in Shamli. The video footage shows members throwing punches, climbing on chairs, and attempting to jump on each other. The intensity of the altercation has drawn condemnation from various quarters, including former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern.
Yadav pointed to the incident as indicative of not only the state of local governance but also internal tensions within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He suggested that the lack of development work may have contributed to the physical altercation among councilors.
The incident has sparked discussions about the need for decorum and civility in political meetings and raised questions about the state of local governance in Shamli.
