In the Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh, a goods vehicle collided with a truck, resulting in the deaths of five women and three children and the injuries of twenty-three others, police reported on Monday.
According to a senior police official, the victims were returning from a family function when the accident happened late on Sunday night close to Kathia village.
According to the official, the victims were locals of Patharra village who were coming back from a family gathering in Tiraiyya village.
The goods vehicle collided with the mini truck that was parked by the roadside, the official said.
He mentioned the following names as the deceased: Madhu Sahu (5), Rikesh Nishad (6), Twinkle Nishad (6), Neera Sahu (55), Bhuri Nishad (50), Geeta Sahu (60), Agniya Sahu (60), Khushbu Sahu (39).
Two hospitals admitted the injured people. According to him, four patients with serious injuries were later sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Raipur.
