Kerala: Three women from Tamil Nadu, who attempted to enter the Vavara mosque near Sabarimala temple, were arrested late on Monday night.

The women have been identified as Revathy and Susheela Devi from Tiruppur and Gandhimathi from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. They belong to a Hindu fringe group called the ‘Indu Makkal Katchi’ or ‘Hindu Makkal Katchi’.

Earlier this week, the women had held a press conference and announced their decision to enter the Vavara mosque as they felt that if women could enter the Sabarimala temple, they should also be allowed to enter the mosque. Along with them, three men from the outfit were also nabbed.

The Kozhinjambara police have termed the move an attempt to create communal tension. As the group announced its move, the police have beefed up security. “The group was finally found and taken into custody at the Vela Thavalam check post in Palakkad,” sources said.
