New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s lawyers presented before the Delhi Police on Wednesday, stated that the CM played no part in the creation or dissemination of the manipulated video featuring Home Minister Amit Shah.

Reddy, who faced summonses over the purported sharing of the video on social media platform X, launched a scathing attack on the BJP at a Telangana rally. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah of harboring vindictive motives against him for questioning the BJP’s stance on reservation policies.

Sources within the police department disclosed that they are nearing identification of the individual responsible for creating the deepfake video. However, before detaining the suspect, authorities need to confirm the uploader or forwarder of the video. Additionally, five more individuals from various opposition parties have been served summonses for their alleged involvement in circulating the video.

Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur also received a summons from the Delhi Police for May 2 in connection with the investigation. Thakur expressed bewilderment over the notice, dismissing it as an act of chaos.

Revanth Reddy’s legal counsel appeared before the Delhi Police following the issuance of summonses to Reddy, who also serves as the Telangana Congress chief, and four other members of the Pradesh Congress Committee for their alleged role in sharing the video on X. The police await responses from those summoned, with more individuals expected to appear in the following days. Meanwhile, authorities plan to question individuals from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

Reddy’s lawyer refuted the allegations, stating that his client does not operate the X handle ‘@INCTelangana’ and therefore cannot provide the requested information. The lawyer deemed the notice from Delhi Police as misguided and urged its withdrawal. He clarified that Reddy’s Twitter handle is ‘@revanth_anumula’ and asserted that no tweet or retweet of the purported video was made from his account. Despite efforts, the Delhi Police have yet to receive any response from X regarding the identities of those who shared the manipulated video of Amit Shah.
