The Hyderabad city police said that they arrested five social media activists associated with the Telangana Congress party in connection with the dissemination of an alleged morphed video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video, which allegedly went viral, prompted a complaint from a state BJP leader on April 27, alleging a violation of the IT Act.
The accused were presented before a local court, where they were granted bail under the condition of submitting two sureties worth Rs 10,000 each. Additionally, they were instructed to cooperate with the investigating officer by appearing before them every Monday and Friday until further order.
According to police statements, the morphed video of Amit Shah’s speech during an election campaign in Siddipet aimed to mislead voters, particularly those from OBC communities. The police registered a case under various sections including forgery, circulating rumors, and spreading false information.
The incident reportedly occurred after a public meeting in Medak on April 23, where Amit Shah delivered a speech. The accused allegedly received the morphed video and shared it on social media platforms, including WhatsApp groups.
Earlier, the Delhi Police summoned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on May 1 for questioning in a related case involving a doctored video of Amit Shah.
