New Delhi: A shocking incident of discrimination has come to light from New Delhi where an upscale restaurant misbehaved with some street children and also denied entry for them inside the restraurant.
Sonali Shetty (sitting) outside the restaurant
Sonali Shetty, a Good Samaritan had brought few street children along with her to the Shiv Sagar restaurant located in CP to celebrate her husband’s birthday. As per Shetty, the owner of the restaurant took exception to the fact that ‘such kids’, who were not well-dressed, were brought to the restraurant and even misbehaved with a few of the kids.
“The owner was of the opinion that the kids looked dirty,” said Shetty who has been protesting outside the restaurant after the incident took place.
However, Roma Malhotra, PR of Shiv Sagar, denying the allegations said that Shetty had brought the kids inside the hotel and the management only pointed to Shetty that the kids were creating a lot of ‘Tamasha’ inside the hotel.
“As a restaurateur we have rights reserved to deny service if our guest are getting disturbed. Don’t think we did anything wrong,” Malhotra is quoted in Zeenews.
AAP orders inquiry
Reacting to the incident, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has ordered an inquiry and asked the District Magistrate to report within next 24 hours.
It may be recalled that last year, a posh restaurant in an upscale mall in south Delhi had denied entry to a disability rights activist, Nipun Malhotra, allegedly saying that it doesn’t “allow disabled people inside, as a policy”.
