Sohrabuddin fake encounter: CBI court drops charges against Amit Shah

Mumbai: The Mumbai special Central Bureau of Investigation court has dropped charges against BJP president Amit Shah in the fake encounter cases of Shorabuddin and Tulsiram Prajapati.

The Central Bureau of Investigation special court dropped all charges against Shah in the alleged fake encounter killings of Sheikh, an alleged extremist, his wife Kauser Bi and Tulsi Prajapati, who was said to be an eyewitness to his killing. This means he will not have to face trial in the case.

Mr. Shah and 37 others were charged by the special court in the fake encounter of the two under various sections of the IPC including those for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement and destruction of evidence.

The special CBI judge M.B. Gosavi on Tuesday said, “I am of the opinion that the inference that the CBI has drawn is not accepted.” The entire record when considered in totality shows there is no case against the applicant Mr.Shah, he added while recording his reasons for discharging the accused under section 227 of the Code of Criminal Procedure ( CrPc).

According to the CBI, Shorabuddin, who had links with Pakistan based terror group LeT, was abducted along with his wife Kauser Bi by the Gujarat’s Anti Terrorism Squad on their way from Hyderabad to Sangali in Maharashtra. Sohrabuddin was gunned down in a staged encounter near Gandhi nagar in Gujarat in November , 2005.

His close aide , Prajapati was also killed at Chapri village in Banaskantha district in Gujarat in December 2006 as he was the sole eyewitness to the encounter.
