New Delhi: As most of the four year olds are busy with their toys, here is a budding cricketer who has been selected to his school’s U-12 team.

Shayan Jamal, a four-year-old boy from Delhi, studying at Hamdard Public School in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar has been selected to the U-12 team. It is said Shayan had started watching cricket when he was a year old and started playing when he was just three!

Shayan’s father, Arshad Jamal is a former club level cricketer who owns a modest business in Delhi and trains him. Arshad says that Shayan’s cricketing sense is strong and he is hungry to play cricket. “If I give him a break for a day or two, he begins to pester me, asking me ‘why aren’t we going to the nets!’ His game is natural. I am just trying to mould him,” says Arshad.

Shayan at the age of three would be keenly engrossed in the television set whenever a cricket match was on. The little boy seemed to be destined for greatness, as he picked up a bat less than a year later.

One of the startling facts of the boy prodigy is that he has an excellent defensive technique. At an age where even holding a cricket bat is difficult, Shayan’s cover drives are just amazing to watch. He also knows how to leave a ball outside the off stump and play the late cut. He has excelled beyond everyone’s expectations including his father’s.

“I enjoy playing cricket. I want to play more. I also like fielding,” says Shayan.
