New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to conduct retests for the 2015 All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) within four weeks.

A bench comprising justices R.K. Agrawal and Amitava Roy cancelled the AIPMT 2015 held on 3 May citing irregularities found in the test conducted.

“We are not unaware that in holding the present examination as well as in participating in the exercise, all genuinely concerned have put in tireless efforts. All these, however, have been rendered futile by a handful of elements seeking to reap undue financial gain by subjecting the process to their evil manoeuvres. We have thus no hesitation to order that the All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Test stands cancelled,” the court said, in a 41-page verdict.

The court also asked the board to ensure that they “minimize the delay” in beginning the academic session, which was earlier scheduled for 1 August. It asked the Haryana police to continue its investigation into the irregularities.

The petitioners, students who had appeared for AIPMT conducted in May, had alleged that there had been mass copying and use of unfair means, which required cancellation of the exam.
