Salt Rs.120/kg creates panic, in India

India: Rumors of salt shortage sparked panic in Nagaland, Bihar, Patna, Kolkata and some other remote parts of India, moreover to which the salt was sold to people at Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg, by the few black market stockiest.

The police confirmed that 13 traders have been detained in Darjeeling district for selling salt at exorbitant prices, whereas around 18 people were arrested from other parts of India with reference to the black marketing.

It is learnt that the miscreants along with the black marketers and stockiest started spreading rumors in small town initially, by saying that the Gujarat government would not supply salt consignments due to Nitish’s rivalry towards Modi.

The Food and civil supplies minister rubbished all such rumors and pleaded the public not to believe in such stories. He even confirmed that the country has adequate amount of salt and no one must pay heed to such black marketers who purposely create the economic supply and demand issue in the country.

The Dimapur District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DDCCI) president Hukivi Chishi also assured that there is no shortage of salt in Dimapur and that there should be no price hike.

He also warned that if shop owners enhance the price of salt, this should be brought to the notice of the DDCCI, and strict actions will be taken.

The administration and MCCI made a public announcement that there was no such shortage of salt in the market.
