New Delhi: An apprehensive Jairam Ramesh, the union rural development minister spoke about Rahul Gandhi and his indigenous point of view about the Muslim community, at the Islamic Cultural Centre at Delhi.
He said, “The congress vice president Rahul Gandhi should apologize to the Muslim community for his remarks that Muslim youth were persuaded by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)”
He further elaborated on Gandhi’s remarks made at an election rally while referring to Muslim youth affected by the violence at Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
Jairam Ramesh said, “Gandhi’s intention was not to criticize any community, but it was blown out of proportion by the media and the oppositions.”
“He is genuinely concerned about minorities, weaker sections, Dalits and deprived classes, he is truly secular”, he added.
Moreover he also warned about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) stating that they would want the country to be only on Hindutva Rashtra, and the BJP as well, is tiring to play politics in the name of religion.
Jairam urged that the Parliament of India denotes democracy, which must be maintained and people must not create communalism in the country as well as in they must not disrupt politics.
He confirmed that the centre had released Rs.250 crore to Assam for riot-affected people, but Uttar Pradesh had not approached the centre with a request for relief to the violence-affected people of Muzaffarnagar.
Minority affairs minister K Rehman Khan and minister of state for parliamentary affairs Rajiv Shukla were also were present at the event.
