New Delhi: According to police reports, a tragic incident occurred at a mosque in Kanchan Nagar, located in Rajasthan’s Ajmer, where a cleric named Mohammad Mahir was allegedly attacked and fatally beaten by three unidentified individuals wearing masks.
The unfortunate event unfolded on Saturday while Mahir was asleep alongside six children within the mosque premises. The assailants reportedly barged into the mosque and assaulted the 30-year-old cleric, who hailed from Rampura, Uttar Pradesh, using sticks.
Upon hearing the commotion, the children raised an alarm, prompting the perpetrators to threaten them with harm and confiscate Mahir’s mobile phone to prevent any calls for assistance. Subsequently, after the attackers fled the scene, the children exited the mosque and sought help from nearby residents.
As of now, law enforcement authorities have not made any arrests, but they are actively working to apprehend the suspects. Ravindra Khinchi, the in-charge of Ramganj police station, stated that investigations are ongoing, including a review of CCTV footage in the vicinity.
The motive behind the heinous act remains undisclosed, and authorities have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
