Prominent writer/poet Ashita passes away at 63 battling cancer

Thrissur: Prominent name in Malayalam literature, writer and poet Ashita (63) passed away, here on Tuesday, March 27.

She was admitted to a private hospital on Tuesday morning for treating her cancer. After a prolonged battle with cancer, she breathed her last at 12.55 AM.

The hospital sources confirmed the same.

Ashita was born on April 5, 1956 in Thrissur. She did her schooling in Delhi and Mumbai and completed her graduation and post-graduation from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam.

She has won several awards, including the prestigious Edaserri Award in 1986 and  in 1994.

Ashita is survived by her husband K V Ramankutty and daughter Uma Praseeda.
