
Mohali: A Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) woman officer of the Punjab government was shot dead, here on Friday, March 29 morning, by a pharmacy owner, whose license was cancelled a decade ago after a raid.
The deceased woman officer is 36-year-old Neha Shoree.
The pharmacy owner Balwinder Singh (50) who shot Neha, committed suicide immediately by shooting himself.
Neha was posted in the year 2016 as officer of FDA Zonal Licensing Authority.
According to the police sources, medical shop owner Balwinder’s license was cancelled by Neha in the year 2009 and dragged to the court.
In an act of revenge, on Friday morning at around 10.30 AM, Balwinder came on a bike to the FDA office and shot two bullets at Neha.
The police also said that he had shouted ‘Happy Holi’ after she was shot.
According to the SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar’s statement to one of the English dailies, Balwinder had shot one bullet on her temple and one on chest. When he tried to escape, the people had blocked him near the office gate. With no other options left, he shot himself on his chest and head with the same revolver, he had shot Neha.
After both were rushed to a private hospital, Neha was confirmed brought dead by the doctors and Balwinder died on the way to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
The police have recovered a knife wrapped in a newspaper and a revolver from Balwinder.
According to SSP Bhullar, Neha had conducted a raid in September 2009, when she was a Drug Inspector in Ropar district. Balwinder’s shop too was raided. She had recovered around 35 types of tablets which were used by drug addicts. Balwinder was asked to produce the necessary documents with respect to the tablets recovered. As Balwinder could not produce any document, Neha had cancelled his license then.
Balwinder had brought a revolver on March 9 and had also obtained an arms license from the Ropar administration.
According to a police source, Neha’s six-year-old niece had accompanied her to the office, as she was on vacation. During the shootout, the niece was in the office.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh has ordered a probe into the incident
