Passenger Train runs over 37 pilgrims at Bihar station

Khagaria (Bihar): Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani Express train crushes several people to death, most of them Kanwarias (Shiva devotees) near Bhamara Ghat railway Station in Bihar on Monday morning. Following the incident, the mob turned violent and beat the train driver to death.

The incident happened at around 9 am when a speeding Rajyarani Express train ran over good number of Shiva devotees, who were crossing the railway track between Badla Ghat and Bhamara Ghat railway station under Samastipur division of East Central Raiway.

 According to the sources, the pilgrims were going to Katyayni temple to offer morning prayers when the inciident took place. An angry crowd of Kanwarias set the train to fire after pelting stones on it.

Arun Malik, DRM, Samastipur informed that several people were died. A relief van had rushed to the spot. 

Several people have been held captive at the station by the devotees, train services have also been suspended on the route following the accident, he added.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP from Khagaria, Dinesh Chandra Yadav said that the incident was unfortunate. He stated that 37 people were killed and nearly as many injured.
